1. Admire the Artwork

The permanent collection at the Oak Ridge Art Center is made up of a variety of artwork done by international and regional artists alike. They also host new exhibitions approximately every 6 weeks that feature diverse media, techniques, styles, and content. The artwork that they present in these exhibitions reflect their efforts to appeal to a broad audience through the presentation of interesting and unique pieces.

2. Take an Art Class or Workshop

Art comes in many different forms and you can learn about them while creating beautiful pieces in an art class or workshop at the Oak Ridge Art Center. No matter what your experience level is, the instructors will work with you to develop new skills that will make you a more advanced artist.

3. Attend a Special Event

The Oak Ridge Art Center hosts numerous community events throughout the year, all of which are available for you to see on their calendar. Some are simply monthly activities, like Art A La Carte, which is held at noon on the fourth Friday of each month. It’s a brown bag luncheon that often includes video tours of other museums or special exhibitions, profiles of artists and their work, and more! Other events are held annually like their Gallery of Holiday Shops and Bake Sale. It features handmade jewelry, ceramics, baskets, wooden boxes, an array of paintings and photography as well as home baked goods!

4. Visit the Library

If you love to read and are interested in learning more about art, stop by the Art Center Library! Inside, you’ll find all kinds of books about art history, biographies of artists, painting techniques, crafts, and other interesting topics relating to art. If you’re an Art Center member, you can borrow up to 3 books at a time, for 1 month. Even if you’re not a member, you’re still welcome to browse.

5. Be a Volunteer

If you’re looking for an opportunity to give back to the community, you can volunteer at the Oak Ridge Art Center! Whether you have an artistic talent that you’d like to share or you just want to get involved, this amazing attraction is always looking for volunteers. You could get a first look at exhibitions as a greeter or preparation volunteer. You could also answer phones and hang or take down exhibits as staff support. If you like working with kids, you can even help with children’s activities at special events.
