2019 Holiday Travel

According to USA Today, 107.3 million people will be traveling this holiday season and of course, the main reason that people travel during the holidays is to visit family.  While we all love our families, sometimes we would love for them to stay somewhere else. Well, we are here to help you out.  Anderson County has numerous lodging options and some have enough room for your holiday festivities.

Norris Dam State Park

Norris Dam State Park has rustic and deluxe cabins.  The deluxe cabins have three bedrooms with a double bed in each room. They also have a grill, fireplace and outdoor fire pit. The rustic cabins, which were originally constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, have one to two bedrooms and they all have a wood burning fireplace.  All the park’s cabins have the amenities of home with a cozy, “nestled in the woods” feel.  The State Park system is offering 25% off from December 1, 2019 to February 29, 2020.  Click here for all the details.

Windrock Park

If your family enjoys nature, check out Windrock Park’s lodging options.  They have cabins that sleep up to 18 people.  They also have a campground with full hook-ups for Uncle Eddie.  (If you don’t get the Christmas Vacation movie reference, they have a campground for those family members that have RVs and campers. BTW if you don’t get the reference, you need to watch the movie.  It is hilarious.) New this year, Windrock Park has Yurts.

Rabbit Run

If you have a large family, Rabbit Run, just outside of the City of Norris, can accommodate your group.  The retreat has five bedrooms, two family rooms and a large kitchen making it perfect for making a holiday meal.  It can sleep 26 comfortably with plenty of room to add portable beds if needed.  It also has a large sunroom that will seat your whole family for a holiday meal.  You might even catch a glimpse of a deer or a rabbit, for which the retreat gets its name, in the field behind the retreat.

Other Options

Anderson County also has a range of hotels that offer about every amenity that you can think of. Some are offering a special discount for holiday travelers such as:

  • The Hampton Inn in Clinton is offering a “Home for the Holidays” special of 15% off when the traveler mentions the promotion.
  • The Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Oak Ridge is offering a 10% discount on reservations.  Just call the hotel and mention the Holiday Discount.  Or, you can get a 25% discount for reservations booked and purchased in advance online at www.hiexpress.com/oakridgetn through December 31st.
  • Staybridge Suites in Oak Ridge, is offering a Home for the Holiday discount rate.  All guests need to do is call either hotel directly and ask for the Holiday Discount, which is 10% off the best rate available.
  • TownePlace Suites in Oak Ridge is offering a free meeting room with the purchase of 20 or more room nights. For example, you could get 10 rooms for two nights (or seven rooms for three night, etc.) and get a meeting room to hold your holiday festivities.
