Come and join the fun! Easy step-by-step instruction and no experience is necessary. All ages are welcome to join.
Claxton Country Squares, a western style square dance club, offers a gathering place for regular square dances and also lessons for those desiring to learn this art. Square dancing is the official Folk Dance for the State of Tennessee.
Their home location is in the Claxton Community Center, 1071 Edgemoor Rd., just beside the Claxton Community Park and near the Bull Run Steam Plant.
This Club was established in 1986, over 36 years ago, and has been an established landmark ever since. They are proud of their reputation of being the friendliest square dance club in the state of Tennessee, and regularly prove to their visitors they intend to keep that reputation intact.
They are also proud to be led by caller, Mr. Mike Hoose, who is very well known in the state of Tennessee and across the United States for his ability in calling square dances and also teaching those who wish to learn this art. And, would you believe it, Mike was born and raised in the Claxton area and he graduated from Clinton High School, so he is a hometown boy at heart.
They offer regular square dances on the 1st and the 4th Saturday nights of practically every month through the year. These dances are from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. The group offers square dance lessons beginning each year on the first Monday after Labor Day, that being Sept. 12th this year. Their first 2 classes are free and that would be Sept. 12 and 19. Following this, the lessons are a minimal cost of $6.00 per dancer, with discounts offered for multiple family members. Everyone is encouraged to try it and see if it is for you. It is a very enjoyable and healthy activity for the entire family, young and old alike.
The classes are a lot of fun and offer an easy learning process with step-by-step instruction.
